design development|the details
Time Frame: 2-4 Weeks
This is the stage where the design gets fleshed out - from a simple idea to a detailed, realistic design. The details are what really makes a project successful.
These efforts are about the things that are obvious (countertop materials, cabinetry layout, light fixtures, etc.), and also about the things you don't think about (trim details, wall sections, roof details, etc).
In this stage, we begin contacting the structural engineer, and any other necessary consultants. We can also start approaching contractors for constructibility and budget questions. For instance, if we determine a feature could get pricey, we could cut it out of the project early, not after the construction details have been drawn up and everyone is in love with it.
All this talk of details brings us to our next section, Permit Documents.
